Plagiarized Pearls from Living a Long Time #14

BEST STORY OF THE DAY: Dallas middle school started a "Breakfast with Dads" program but many dads couldn't make it and several students didn't have father figures. The school posted a Facebook request for 50 volunteer fathers... 600 fathers from all backgrounds showed up...

My original intent of these Plagiarized Pearls was to send out some encouragement. I'm afraid I fell into my temptation to preach. Preaching was my childhood goal. Sorry... 😞
I hope this one encourages you. It sure did me!

BTW, I posted this on a Children's Ministry page I'm a member of and have received the most responses by far of any post ever! I wonder if every week those in children's ministry don't see first hand the challenge of raising children without fathers. My hat's off to any man who will try and instill a little fatherhood into a child's life.

Knowledge is doing what worked before.
Wisdom is doing the right thing without precedent.
Dr. David Jeremiah

Many shall run to and fro, and
knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel 12:4b

Has there ever been a time such as now?
Have you been on a freeway lately?
Man is sure enough running 'to and fro.'
Have you been on Google lately?
Knowledge is sure enough increasing.

Look up, my friend.
He is coming back!

Thinking of ways to encourage others...
"Nothing is politically right which is morally wrong"
Ensconced on the hallowed walls of Missouri's General Assembly rests a mural done in marble with the words Nothing is politically right which is morally wrong. These words are credited to Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847), an Irish attorney known as "The Liberator," who fought for the legal rights of Roman Catholics under English Law.
During Mr. O'Connell's lifetime the Holy Bible established what was morally wrong and right. As Western Culture is being lead away from the teachings of Scripture by its acceptance of secularism, what is now our culture's basis of morally wrong or right?

Thinking of ways to encourage others...
Do What You Should Do
When You Should Do It
Whether You Feel Like It or Not
WOW, I am preaching to the mirror this morning! Tomorrow is normally my most favorite day to do anything.
I have no idea where this platitude came from, but it sure goes down hard for us born procrastinators. Tomorrow is a great time. Today not so much so.
Surely this Plagiarized Pearl is going to encourage some of us to action. I plan to get started first thing in the morning.
Do What You Should Do
When You Should Do It
Whether You Feel Like It of Not
Till next time,
Sam

"Thinking of ways to encourage others..."
Mom's Advise On Gossip
Ask yourself: Is it Kind? Is it True? Is it Necessary?

It was over seventy years ago that Mom began teaching me to speak of others only after filtering my words by answering her three questions:

Is it Kind? Is it True? Is it Necessary?

While I've gotta admit I've come up short of Mom's goal many a time, at least being aware of and trying to practice what she preached has often kept me out of trouble.
If you want to have some fun, inject Mom's pearl into the conversation the next time you find yourself in a group enjoying roast preacher or maybe even roast politician. 😇

"Thinking of ways to encourage others..."
Put a Smile on Someone's Face

Good morning,
Sandy and I have been holding hands for nearly sixty years. Doesn't seem like a big thing, huh? But yesterday our hand holding was a big thing to Michael. In fact, Michael, who we had never met before, stoped his car to comment on our hand holding. It appears Michael seldom sees older folks holding hands, and we 'put a smile on on his face' when he came upon us holding hands on our daily walk down to the park.
Guess what, Michael put a smile on our faces when he took the time to let us know we had put a smile on his face.

Plagiarized Pearls from Living a Long Time #8

Well Sam, I’m not very good with words or punctuation so bear with me. I am 64 , my Mom is 85 and my Dad 83, this being said we have been taking my Dad to radiation treatments everyday for three weeks and have a little over three more to go. It’s 80 miles round trip. Mom had been taking double Plavix for we don’t know how long so now she’s needing a blood transfusion and an iron transfusion and her memory is going down hill. They up until this point were very active and still loved to travel . Covid ruined a lot of trips for us and now this cancer has put a halt to other trips we had scheduled with them. So let me tell you when I’m sitting waiting at appointments with them  I’m looking for encouragement . I for one appreciate your posts. Whenever the Lord moves you to post, go for it!
Thanks,
Lois

You want to be encouraged?
Go to a High School Graduation
Last night Sandy and I went to a high school graduation. May not sound like much to write about about, but spending those couple of hours in that gymnasium was the most encouraging experience we've had in a long time! The excited anticipation of those young adults was palatable. Even with the pandemic, nearly half the graduates received scholarships and a third of them earned GPAs over 3.5. The valedictorian was a second and third grade student in our Sunday school class back what seems like such a short time ago.
We were honored to be invited, but my recommendation is you go invited or not. And don't make a beeline for the exit when the ceremony is over. Just sit for a bit and soak in the the joy and excitement being shared by family and friends. And teachers and administrators.
As I type this in mid-May, high school graduations should be plentiful in your area.
We live in fly-over mid-America, but I've gotta believe the same attitude of hope is going to be part of the graduation wherever you go.
You want to be encouraged? Go to a High School Graduation!

"Thinking of ways to encourage others..."
Wrong
It is never wrong to call wrong "Wrong" when God calls it "Wrong".
Good morning,
The most quoted verse in the Bible is "Judge not, lest you be judged". Pretty good advice, huh? At least for the grey areas of life. But what do we do when we run smack dab into an area where God clearly calls a particular action "Wrong"?
I'm not asking about what our individual denominations interpret as wrong. I'm asking about what is as clear cut as the original Ten.
As I sit here contemplating the subject of wrong I can not help but wonder why we do not major our actions on what God calls "Right".
I do not have the ability to wrap this up with a pithy little closing. I guess the encouraging part today is for you to know that there are others (me, at least) who do not have their understanding set in concrete. But, I do not let what I do not know shake me from what I do know. My favorite parable is the one about the blind man. He was interrogated as to the details of his healing and he responded that he didn't understand the details, but he sure enough knew that once he was blind and that now he can see! That's me.
Unless the Bible clearly states an action is wrong, who am I to judge? 😀
Till next time,
Sam
P.S. We would love your comments.

Wants
I don't want what I can't afford
Good morning,
"I Don't want what I can't afford..." This plagiarized jewel fell from the lips of our number one (and only) son, Tony. He was answering someone's question of why he didn't own a larger, newer and nicer motorhome. Their old Commander got he and his wife, Tammy, and their desert toys back and forth for weekend jaunts to their favorite Southern Californian desert playgrounds, but the Commander admittedly did lack panache. Tony and Tammy both have a lot of ambition and like nice things. They are goal setters who desire to achieve. What they do not do is envy, begrudge, lust after or crave those things they can not yet afford. Wanting what we can not afford is a real bugaboo.
Actually not wanting what we can not afford frees us up to really enjoy what we can afford.
